Installation of a Bauer six metre feeder automatic mitre bandsaw has solved a production bottleneck and reduced costs at Hartlepool based Expanded Metal Company. A large portion of the production requires the use of sections with opposing mitres which other suppliers struggle to provide. Prosaw supplied the Bauer VG450-ST Automatic bundle cutting bandsaw which cuts mitres 45º left and 60º right.
ATD required a new saw to increase tonnage throughput and to cut larger sections than their existing saw could handle. They looked at all potential sources of supply; new and used, circulars and bandsaws, from various suppliers in Germany, Japan and Asia before deciding on a Bomar from the sawing specialists Prosaw.

Faster order processing and reduced stock inventory have followed the introduction of a Danobat CP13-11 Bandsaw at Carrs Tool Steels. The ability to cut even the hardest tool steel up to 1300mm wide quickly and accurately has led to a considerable increase in throughput of cut pieces. Material was previously cut on a competitor’s bandsaw which took approximately three times as long.
Tests were conducted at Kettering on the Danobat CP520AF automatic. The new ‘Paso-Paso’ intelligent cutting control system requires minimal operator input. One cut with High Peaks' material took 1.10 minutes, compared with 3.30 on their existing saw.
Adey Steel required a flexible machine to match the variety of their workload, with a large mitre capacity. As a stockholder they must respond to customers’ “want it now” demands. After a detailed review of the market, Adey Steel decided that the Bomar 440DGH from sawing specialists, Prosaw met their requirements.
A visit to Prosaw’s showroom enabled Celsa to look at several bandsaw alternatives. They decided that the Bomar SL520, a heavy duty, twin pillar bandsaw with a large 720 wide capacity suited their needs best. The compact design enabled it to fit in to the tight space restrictions of Celsa’s existing production plant.
